ABOUT WADI RUM
Wadi Rum is a beautiful semi desert region in the south of Jordan. Although cast into the shadow by the world renowned site of Petra, it's popular for travellers who like to discover the natural beauty of the desert country.
It's not well served by public transport and is some 30 km from a main road - it is, after all, a desert. Do not look to find amenities such as hotels, banks, ATMs, shops....
Buses come here from Aqaba, there is one at 1 pm and another at 3 pm. There is no reliable earlier bus from there. One bus a day comes from Petra and returns there soon afterwards. It leaves Petra at about 6.30 am and arrives here at about 8 am. These are the only means of transport to and from Wadi Rum.
Hotels are no longer allowed to arrange tours here, but any taxi would take you there if asked.
Normally these modes of transport will take you to the Wadi Rum Tourist Centre, where there is a rota for guides. If you should wish to go with any special guides, including ourselves, you should reserve if possible two days in advance. You can find full details about getting to Wadi Rum here.
Visiting Wadi Rum gives you a wonderful opportunity to meet the local Bedouins who are at your disposal to show you around their traditional lands, whether in 4x4, on foot, by camel or with other transport. You may also be lucky enough to see something of their life and customs.
